Subadha is an annual event conducted by VT, Virginia – celebrating the spirit of service! This year, it was held on November 12th at Chinmaya Mission in Chantilly, Virginia.

Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji was invited as the honourable chief guest for the event! Several hundreds of people came along to take part in the event. The proceedings were aimed at supporting underprivileged and visually challenged children studying in schools run under the guidance of Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swami in Andhra Pradesh and Telengana.

Everyone had the same question, ‘Why is social service a huge part of Swami’s conduct despite being a spiritual master?’

Here’s an excerpt of Swamiji’s response exclusively for our readers:

  • What part of your body do you value the most? We value every part of our body because each of the parts have their own function and serve a purpose.
  • Can we ignore a part of the body despite being injured or hurt? No, We cannot ignore any part of the body, we take additional care as needed by the part that is injured or hurt.
  • Why does your entire body feel the pinch when you hurt yourself badly on your foot? Because, the entire body is a single unit and it belongs to you!

Similarly, we are all parts of a single unit and we all collectively belong to that Supreme power, God! We try to heal the hurting parts and wish to be healthy as a single unit. God is not happy if one part of the entire unit is hurting. So, we consider ourselves responsible to take part in serving all beings as service to God, bear in mind – not just humans but all beings!
